This one actually has a very sensible justification. Mercury sings, "No time for losers, 'for we are the champions," letting the lyrics linger in the air as the official track comes to an end. But he did end on "of the world" during a few of his live performances. 

That is why many people recall it in that manner. However, even if we don't fully recall the lyrics, "nothing really matters, everybody can see" that we're going to keep rocking out to Queen's countless rock songs.
